Still catching up

For the last few weeks, we’ve been finishing up phase one at the stall barn. The floor is finished but we also wanted to get mats in all of the stalls and level all of the doors so they open properly. Our first attempt at the mats were to use some smaller mats we already had. We ended up having to remove all of them and replace them with the larger horse mats from Tractor Supply because the smaller ones just got kicked around too much. It was also harder to clean the smaller mats because you had too many sides and corners to dig your forks under.

The stall doors were a bit of a challenge, but in the end, they were not that bad. Each door had to be leveled by placing boards under the bottom rail to prevent it from sagging. As long as the rails stay fairly level everything works pretty smoothly. A small amount of oil was added to the rollers and we were back in business.

The bearings on the roller portion of the 4-n-1 we use to drag the arena wore out and Johnny Lunsford happened to have just ordered 2 new ones that he gave me to get it going again. That got fixed today, so we should be good for the Tuesday night Jackpot. One thing nice about owning a boarding barn and arena is there is NEVER an end to the work.

Now let’s get back to riding horses… 🙂
