The goal was to let Jada do the training so that she could learn how to work with her horse on her own. There is really no point in scaring the horse if he&#8217;s just going to run off each time.  We want them to work through their fears and stand with us instead of doing what mother nature taught them to do, which is to run away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Believe it or not, it takes a little practice to figure out where to position yourself in the round pen in order to get the results you&#8217;re looking for.  Just a few feet in the wrong direction can tell the horse to stop, turn, run, or walk.  How you&#8217;re facing and where you put your arms can also influence their movements.  So the first part of today&#8217;s lesson was more for Jada than Halo.  Luckily she&#8217;s a fast learner and figured it out.  Even after you figure it out though, you have to pay attention to the horse as much as they&#8217;re watching you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You also have to be careful not to get too focused on a stated goal and change things up when they&#8217;re not getting one particular task.  Our goal was to get Halo accepting the tarp, but after he kept balking at it, we changed it up to a rope for a bit and then came back to the tarp. Remember, your horse uses a brain that is based around it being a prey animal.  You can&#8217;t change that flow of information so stop trying.  What you need to focus on, is getting your horse to look at you, for whether or not it should run.
